Expo in National Counsil of Monaco with AIAP
4 octobre 2026
For Heritage Day 2026, the National Council invited the AIAP to exhibit on October 4th, 2026:
Theme: Heritage at risk
This theme addresses the threats facing our tangible and intangible cultural heritage, such as climate change, natural disasters, societal shifts, urbanization, and mass tourism.
Belinda Bussotti—known as BELI—and 15 other artists from Monaco had the great pleasure of unveiling a glimpse of their art, which draws inspiration from the Principality’s heritage.
For this occasion, BELI presented two very different facets of her art.
– On the one hand, three canvases dedicated to architectural heritage, all created in 2009 using a blend of photography and acrylic paint. In fact, some of these photographs would no longer be possible to capture in 2026—notably "Reflet du Shangri-La" (Reflection of the Shangri-La) on the CFM’s glass walls—since those walls no longer exist!
– Then there is the seahorse sculpture, a tribute to maritime heritage; not so long ago, these small fish were abundant in the Larvotto Reserve.
This red resin "BELI’pokamp," mounted on a steel base, stands two meters tall.
The vivid red acts like a danger signal. The documented global decline in seahorse populations over the past two decades was officially recognized when they were listed under CITES Appendix II in 2002.
This massive decline is driven by overfishing, habitat destruction, use in certain Asian medicines, and the souvenir trade—where tourists buy the creatures’ dried little carcasses encased in resin!
